Just one day after announcing countermeasures—including retaliatory tariffs on U.S. imports—Canada removed fish and seafood from the list of affected goods.
According to reports from outlets including Bloomberg and POLITICO, Canada’s Department of Finance issued a statement on X on the 27th announcing the adjustment. Fish and seafood were removed from the list of targeted goods in response to feedback, with the aim of “preventing broader economic damage.”
The statement added that the department is “working with Canadian industries to assess the effectiveness of the measures, focusing on sectors affected by U.S. tariffs,” and reiterated its commitment to implementing reciprocal countermeasures—matching the value and rate of the U.S. tariffs—against American goods.
