On the 26th, a glacier collapse along the Nepal-China border triggered deadly floods and mudflows towering several stories high; by the morning of the 28th, the death toll had reached 475. Kathmandu Post reporter Arjun Poudel recounted how his village vanished in an instant during the disaster.
Poudel wrote that on the morning of the floods, while en route to his office in Kathmandu, he received a call from his wife: “The Trishuli River is flooding. It looks like something has happened at Sole Bazaar and Betrawati—people are saying nothing is left there.”
